The Tale of Ping and His Empty Pot
Once upon a time in China, there lived a kind little boy named Ping. He loved planting seeds and watching flowers bloom. One day, the Emperor announced, “Children, I will give each of you a seed. Whoever grows the most beautiful flower will be the next Emperor.”
All the children were excited. Ping took his seed home, planted it with care, and watered it every day. But no matter what he tried, nothing grew. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Still, Ping’s pot stayed empty.
When the big day came, children filled the palace garden with pots of colorful flowers. Ping felt shy, but he remembered what his parents always told him: “Always be honest.” So, he carried his little empty pot to the palace.
The Emperor’s Secret and the Lesson of Honesty
The Emperor walked among the children, looking at all the flowers. Then he stopped at Ping. Instead of being angry, he smiled kindly. “Children,” the Emperor said, “all the seeds I gave you were boiled. They could never grow. Yet only Ping was honest enough to bring me his empty pot. This shows true courage and honesty. And that is why Ping will be the next Emperor of China.”
The children gasped, and Ping’s eyes filled with tears of joy. He had not won with a flower, but with his truth.
